"Let's dream a bit, life is so short!

170 million years ago, an Ichthyosaurian, a big marine reptile, lived in the waters of a shallow sea edged by a luxuriant and varied vegetation. It ate fish but didn't despise also the giant Belemnites floating within the ocean currents. Sadly, for it as for the entire fauna living at that time, life was short and the remains of only a few of them did outlast as fossils in some kind of limestone.

Today, there is a quarry on the border between France and Luxembourg, at the villages of Ottange-Rumelange, where there has been an ocean at Jurassic times in our region.

Enthusiastic amateurs of earth sciences of two associations decided to revive this period and raised an inventory, not exhaustive, of the paleontological and mineral riches of this quarry.

It is this inventory you will discover browsing this book of 152 pages. More than 160 geological samples are being depicted in clear photographs. An article with general explanations does precede each chapter.

Dear reader, it's up to you now to start dreaming...."

This monograph is the result of a cooperation between Géolor, AGMP (the friends of geology, mineralogy and paleontology of Luxembourg) and the national museum of natural history of Luxembourg, and with the schientific assistance of the university Henri Poicaré of Nancy.
